MiAlgae uses waste water from whisky distilleries to create algae-based fish food!
Douglas Martin founded MiAlgae during his student time at the Edinburgh University, the idea is to grow microalgae?using the wastewater containing nitrates and phosphates from whisky distilleries around Scotland. The end result is an omega-3 rich microalgae?fish feed. The aim is to hopefully be able to replace the current fish food created with small fish, with the sustainable algae-based omega-3 rich fish food from MiAlgae.
In June this year, MiAlgae announced they had raised ?500,000 to allow building a test plant at an undisclosed distillery and to expand its team.
